Virtual Summer Term

Hannah’s choirs are currently online. We are thrilled the vaccines are available and hope to be in person again soon, but for now we are enjoying meeting online on Wednesday evenings. Past and present members of Victoria Park Singers, Kensington Singers and Finsbury Park Singers (plus friends and soon-to-be friends who love to sing) are invited to join us for a weekly choir practice full of harmonies, community and wellbeing through singing.

Our new term will begin on April 28th. Some of the pieces we learn we will aim to sing together in person in the future when we can meet again. There will be plenty of vocal tips thrown in too! You would be more than welcome wherever you are in the world.

FAQs

How does choir on zoom work?
We all log in to a zoom meeting and put our mics on mute. You will receive instructions on how to use zoom when we send out the link. Hannah teaches the parts for each song (you will only be able to hear her voice) and then we split into breakout rooms to practice them. We can chat via the chatbox and also in the break we un-mute. You can print out your own lyrics or have them open on your screen. We recommend keeping your video on as it feels a bit more social – but this is your choice.

I’ve paid – how do I get the zoom link and sheet music?
We will send these out via e-mail on the day of the first session. Don’t worry if you don’t hear from us until then – we try to keep e-mails to a minimum to save clogged inboxes. We use mailchimp so please do check your junk/promotions folders as we sometimes accidentally end up in there.

Will everyone be able to hear me sing?
No – everyone’s mics remain on mute during the session. This is because of the internet delay – we can’t hear more than one voice live via zoom. The voice you will hear is Hannah’s, plus in your breakout room you’ll hear your section leader.

I can’t make all the rehearsals but i’d still like to take part – is that ok?
Absolutely! We recommend you attend as many as possible to get the most out of the experience, especially if you want to take part in the virtual choir videos, but it is up to you. We don’t offer a discount for missed sessions, sorry.

I don’t want to film a virtual choir video – can I still take part?
Definitely, you’d be more than welcome. We’d love to encourage you to give it a go but that part isn’t compulsory.

Why can’t we sing together in person instead?
The rules for singing together are very strict. At a simplified level you can have a maximum of 30 singers in one space with 3m distance advised between each person. Hannah’s choirs are all bigger than 30 singers and our venues are not big enough to comply with the 3m rule and therefore it is much safer for us to sing online at the moment.

What music will we be singing?
We would like this to be shaped by the group so we haven’t set this in stone yet. We normally sing a mixture of pop, world music, jazz and choral classics – and sometimes one of Hannah’s original pieces.

I’ve got a question – who can I contact?
You can contact us via e-mail – pa @ hannahbrine.co.uk.
